Secret Ingredient.

I’ll never forget when I was at Tyler’s house and we were trying to write songs for the album, we were determined to figure out the secret to music. We were convinced that there had to be some special ingredient to the “perfect” song. We prayed for a while, sought after God, looked in the bible for hours, had dictionaries, 2 laptops, multiple bible translations and we researched music in the bible till 3am. Now that I look back on it, its kind of funny but at the time we weren’t going to quit till we found it.

We eventually got to tired and became slap happy so we decided to call it a night and go to bed. We were pretty disappointed that we didn’t find anything, the only thing accomplished was learning Greek terms for musical instruments. I remember when I woke up that morning though…God began to speak to me, he spoke to both of us actually. We talked that morning about how God showed us both that the “secret” that we were looking for wasn’t really much of a secret. God spoke to us that what we were after was his anointing. That’s the key to the incredible traffic stopping worship song that we were going for.

Ever since that day God has been showing me a little bit more each day how exactly to use that anointing and how to operate in it and just what exactly I’m capable of doing in that anointing. It’s been a fun learning experience and I am super ecstatic to share what I have learned/learning.

1. We already have the anointing.

1 John 2:20 “But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.”

1 John 2:26-27 “I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.”

This basically tells us that we have the anointing from God if we remain in God. One way then that we can be anointed is to be linked, close to and in Gods word. That’s some way that the anointing will grow inside of us. It also tells us that the anointing is something that teaches us and its something that we can’t figure out. The best I’ve ever heard it explained is that its like the wind. We know its there and we can learn all about it and how it works but we can’t change it or tell it what to do. All it can do is carry us and be with us everywhere we go. ..or something like that hah.

2. Psalms 45:7
You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.

This gives me the idea that we can be anointed in different areas of our life. I think we usually hear anointing in a common pattern of being an anointed musician, preacher, speaker, ect. We usually pray that God will anoint our words. Although that’s extremely important…God has been showing me that we should be anointed in every aspect of our lives. I don’t only pray that God anoint me when I play or when I pray or speak but lately I’ve been asking God to anoint me when I walk into a room to stand out or for God to anoint my conversations that I have with people so that they can feel the presence of God just through a conversation. I believe that God wants to anoint us in every aspect of our lives, we just never ask him to.

See, what Tyler and I learned from our hours of seeking after God is that’s what God wanted in the first place. He wants people to seek after him and ask him for things. We find in the bible examples of how we need to ask seek and knock. That’s what Tyler and I did, we prayed and asked God to reveal himself to us and sought through the scriptures for an answer. After we did that God started to answer us and he still continues to answer us every day. David was a man after Gods own heart, that’s in my opinion, why he was such an anointed musician. Because he sought after Gods heart.

I don’t want to make this really long so I’ll post another blog soon about how I’ve recently had such a desire to be like David. I’ve had it spoken over my life a ton of times in the past month and I’m studying and learning all about David. That’s what I will share with you beautiful people next. Its amazing to me how when David played, he was so anointed that people could feel God all around them and demons had to flee from people just from him playing his harp cause the presence was so strong. That’s what I desire to happen with my music and I pray to God that it will. :)
