The Anointed Porn Addict
It seems as if anyone can be anointed nowadays. Seriously, I know way to many people and have heard way to many stories recently of popular people who preach the gospel or sing worship and are addicted to porn, abusing their wife/kids, having an affair, gambling their saving away, partying like there’s no tomorrow and just living like the world.
The problem I have with this is that I have personally seen these people. I have listened to their music. I have seen God flow through them and I have watched them prophecy and have heard the passion in their voice when they spoke. They kicked Satan’s butt, they set people free, they broke addictions, they even got people saved. They really were anointed by God!
How can someone be so anointed and operate in such great power while all this time he is addicted to porn and masturbation when he has a WIFE?! Preaches the word and then goes and does whatever he wants with the world. I don’t know about you but something about that doesn’t sit right with me.
See, one of the scariest things (I think) is that John says that we already have the anointing.
“As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.” (1 John 2:27)
I believe (through study of this chapter and of the anointing) that we become anointed when the holy spirit comes upon us (John 14:26)(Acts 1:8) and just as the verse says, it remains in us. Because the anointing remains in us, our job is to remain in him. I believe that as soon as you come to Christ and then ask the Holy Spirit to live inside of you, you are anointed to do the will of God no matter what kind of sin you are in. God empowers you to go (remains in you) and trusts that you will go (remain in him).
I hear a lot that people who are living in the world and in Christ are lukewarm and that God wants to spit them out of his mouth (Rev 3:15-17). Although I completely agree with those people and think that WAY to many Christians are living lukewarm (including myself) that doesn’t change the fact that we are still anointed lukewarm Christians. ..and that’s scary.
We think that just because we are seeing people healed, preaching to the nations, saving the lost and making a difference in people’s lives that we are okay and us and God are cool. We think that just because we preach once a week that it cancels out our big sin we committed the day before. As crazy as that sounds that’s how we think! I know that’s how I think..
God gives us his gifts freely (Romans 11:29) which means that we don’t have to do anything to receive them. We don’t have to live a Godly life or be in constant prayer or put others before us. He gave them to us prophecy, tongues, anointing, healing, all freely. Which I believe is why one could live in complete sin and also be an anointed speaker, leader, business man, friend or person. However, I don’t rejoice over this fact. It terrifies me and makes me think of the warning given in 1 John 2:18-26. We have a church filled with people who are all anointed, self-seeking, rejecting truth and following evil. Those people are considered an “antichrist” (1 John 2:18) and it displeases the heart of God. (Romans 2:23) (Romans 2:5-11)
What are the consequences of this two-faced life? Do you think a life lived half in sin and half in God is justifiable if people are getting saved and God is moving? Is God pleased with the worship leader who leads a church service and then goes to the nearest parking lot with his girlfriend? How do you think God reacts to that and how do we avoid being an “anointed porn addict” ourselves?
Great insight here.
This scripture comes to my mind “Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:13-16)

God already knew about these people. And Jesus addressed the same issue so let’s let him answer your questions.
Matthew 7:21-23 (The Message)
21-23″Knowing the correct password—saying ‘Master, Master,’ for instance— isn’t going to get you anywhere with me. What is required is serious obedience—doing what my Father wills. I can see it now—at the Final Judgment thousands strutting up to me and saying, ‘Master, we preached the Message, we bashed the demons, our God-sponsored projects had everyone talking.’ And do you know what I am going to say? ‘You missed the boat. All you did was use me to make yourselves important. You don’t impress me one bit. You’re out of here.’
How to avoid it? I think Paul Grodell gave a good scripture. I think accountability, is another good way. We tend to get all offended when someone approaches us and calls us out in our sin, when instead, we should stop and consider what is being said. The NT church was all about being up in each other’s business, if it wasn’t, most of the “books” of the Bible wouldn’t even exist.
